SPORT'S HALL ARENA
Belgrade Arena became Belgrade’s trademark and one of the new symbols of the Serbian capital, as well as the place of interest for the visitors to our capital and the country. It is a facility that fully meets the latest standards and, together with the “Prague Arena”, it is at the highest technological level in Europe. This extraordinary building was the work of architect Vlado Slavica, and the investor was the Belgrade City Assembly Secretariat for Sports and Youth. The Belgrade Arena complex consists of three units: a large hall, a small hall, and the parking space. The large hall covers the area of 48 000 m2 and has six levels, the seating capacity of 20 000 - 25 000, depending on the event to be held. According to its official page it is the fourth biggest sport’s hall in Europe behind SCC Arena in St. Petersburg (25.000), Turkish Sinan Erdem Dom (22.000) and Sportska palata Merksem from Belgium (21.000).
EVENTS
The official opening came nearly four years later, July 31, 2004, when the Diamond Ball basketball tournament was held. Since Arena had only temporary license, only several events were held during the next two and a half years. The first event held after getting permanent license was the 50 Cent concert in 2006. Afterward Arena hosted many other significant artists of Serbia and former Yugoslavia, as well as major international stars, including the likes of RBD, Phil Collins, Lenny Kravitz, Rihanna, The Chemical Brothers, Iron Maiden, Nick Cave, Joe Cocker, Andrea Bocelli. The Arena also hosted Eurosong 2008.
