U. Olimpija in deep crisis, president Mitič stepped down too
The agony Union Olimpija is facing with could not be bigger than it is in the last couple of weeks. After few departures of some key players in recent months and the resignation of the director Igor Dolenc, players went on strike on Tuesday while today the president Dušan Mitič stepped down too…
Mitič, who tried to assure finances for the player's salaries and for the normal operation of the club, had a meeting with players on Tuesday evening but the agreement was not reached and players continued with the strike. “I gave my best on Tuesday to convince players that they have to continue with practices and games. I personally spoke first with the captain Sašo Ožbolt, than with Vlado Ilievski, Edin Bavčić, Gašper Vidmar and Nemanja Aleksandrov as with the coach Jure Zdovc. Unfortunately my arguments were not good enough and players said that they will continue with the strike,” was written in the official statement the club sent in the name of Dušan Mitič.
It is to expect that the club’s managing committee will meet this week, while according to the unofficial informations from the club players finally decided to continue practices after the president’s radical move.
